Why Does My Child Need Chiropractic Care?

In today's society, more and more parents are seeking chiropractic care not only for themselves but for their children as well....and it makes sense.  Many spinal problems found in adults often begin as early as birth.  Even the 'natural' birthing process can stress the newborn's spine and developing nervous system.  The resulting irritation to the nervous system is the cause of many newborn health complaints and symptoms such as ear infections, colic, gastric reflux, breathing problems, nursing difficulties, sleep disturbances, allergic reactions, and chronic illnesses just to name a few.  It's important to point out that chiropractic care does not treat these individual conditions, it's purpose is to reduce the stress on the nervous system which will allow the natural healing power of the body to take over and do its job.

You’ll probably never see your five or six-year-old bend over to pick up a toy and freeze in pain saying, “Oh, my back went out again.” Spinal degenerations and vertebral subluxations that cause that kind of pain will generally not appear in children – but it usually starts there.

As the infant grows and develops a proper posture, there are many activities that can affect the spinal alignment such as holding up the head, sitting, crawling, walking and then falling.  It is important to have your children checked for subluxations at each of these stages of growth.  If these small, minor problems are left alone or neglected during this stage of rapid growth they may become more serious problems later in life.  It would be crazy to build a house on an unstable foundation, so why would we allow our children to grow up with interfereces in a system that does not allow them to function to their highest potential?

Some common childhood issues that research has proven chiropractic to be helpful for include (but are certainly not limited to):

  • Breastfeeding/Latch Problems
  • Colic, Reflux, Constipation, GERD
